March Meeting: Developments in Online Legal Research and the Ramifications for the Practice of Law

John Joergensen, Associate Dean and Director of the Law Library of Rutgers Law School, will speak about online databases, a topic which impacts all of us on a daily basis. He will discuss how the search experience in online legal databases has evolved to a more “Google-like” interface and shed light on how these search engines really work. Further, Dean Joergensen will introduce new alternatives which are under development and which may offer other options in the near future. Whether you applaud the changes in legal databases or find the newer search interfaces frustrating, this presentation will be most informative to understanding the evolving state of search engines.

Dean Joergensen is well known for his extensive digitization projects. His complete faculty profile is available here: http://law.newark.rutgers.edu/john-p-joergensen

Brown Bag Luncheon: A Book Discussion featuring Sheryl Sandberg’s “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead”

BROWN BAG LUNCHEON

Leaning In:  A Book Discussion featuring
Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg

Moderated by NJLLA member Gayle Lynn-Nelson

The concept of “leaning in” has already made its mark on popular culture. Written by the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook, this book addresses the lack of women in corporate leadership positions and encourages women to “lean in” at work and assert themselves more.

“Lean In” examines the barriers which prevent women from taking leadership positions and suggests steps for success, including being more open to taking career risk and being less concerned with pleasing people. It suggests that more female leadership will leader to fairer treatment for all women.

This topic is very relevant for members of a female-dominated profession. Attendees are encouraged to read the book before attending the discussion, where they can share ideas and experiences, and learn how others have dealt with similar challenges.

For this brown bag luncheon, there will only be one location. As always, bring your own lunch. Drinks and dessert will be provided by the host.
