GALIC – Government Affairs & Legal Information Committee

Written opinions of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, from about 2005 forward, can now be accessed without charge through PACER. The court will evidently rely on opinion availability through PACER to fulfill its duty under the E-Government Act of 2002, while distribution of opinions to the Rutgers-Camden web site will remain incomplete.
In response to a Committee recommendation, “OPRA” and “Open Public Records Act” will be added to the N.J.S.A. Popular Name table (in print and on Westlaw) in April 2007.

Attorney General Stuart Rabner has resumed the practice of issuing Formal Opinions, with three such opinions having appeared so far this year. The last Formal Opinion before this year was in 1998. The texts of the new opinions have been posted in the News section of the OAG website. The Committee has made recommendations to make it easier to find the Formal Opinions, including a special page for them on the OAG site and inclusion of them in the N.J. Register.
